Casa Lumnie

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

This tiny house is located inside the historic town centre of San Buono (460m asl), Abruzzo, a small village that was born on top of a fourteenth century castle. It was a thick layering of additions that built up during a 300 years period. The challenge was to understand which addition was compromising the very essence of the building and subsequently remove it , in the attempt to bring out the original characteristics of the building without loosing its entire history. The careful cleaning emphasises the beauty of the complex internal space, with its uneven walls , irregular shaped rooms, and an  intricated plan. The new intervention was as minimal as possible, also helped by the use of simple and plain materials: in this way the house has regained its original humbleness.
